Princess? Arthur and I will be Utgard for a few days.

[He hesitates. It's one thing to ask Morgana, who he is very good friends with, but well, he and Mithian never get anywhere if he keeps his distance either. Nothing for it, then!]

Merlin, it is good to hear from you. [Cue a warm smile.] And it's very kind of you to offer... What sort of things does the city offer?

Er...a lot of things, actually.

[Basically, he's not sure himself.]

They probably have a selection of...baubles or trinkets that Asgard doesn't.

Is it difficult to visit the city? I'd hate to trouble you. [ See? She's learning how to do things on her own! ]

[dragonspeak]

It's a bit of a travel, but not too difficult to get to. [And she gets a tentative smile.] It's no trouble, really.

[burping]

[Oh dear.] I would ask if you could perhaps find a length of purple fabric. I wish to make something for Lady Morgana. [She smiles at him.] See? That may be a tedious job nor is it one I suspect you'd want to do. Or perhaps I may go into the city myself to find it.

[dragonspeak]

[He makes a face.]

Fabric, really? Morgana asked for the same thing. Are the two of you making things for each other?

[burping]

Did she? [ She looks pleased, actually. ] I had not planned it on my part. If it's easier maybe some sort of treat or sweet.

[dragonspeak]

Nah, the fabric's all right.

It'll all be in the same place anyway, and I dare not forget Morgana's requests. [He grins, only 10% joking, because angry Morgana is frightening.]

[burping]

[She pauses.] Can I ask what takes you to the city? Nothing dangerous, I hope.

[dragonspeak]

Nothing dangerous. Just...the usual. [He shrugs, smiling ruefully.]

Arthur's in a bit of a mood, and I'm to go along with him until he's sorted himself out. [Actually, he just invited himself along, but Mithian doesn't need to know that.]

[burping]

Oh. I hope he gets through it. [ She frowns, with worry.] If there's anything I can do...

[dragonspeak]

He'll get through it. [He says it confidently. ] I'll give him a nudge if it looks like it's taking him longer than usual.

[Merlin chuckles a bit before letting it fade into a thoughtful silence.] You could...be Arthur's friend. I know you said you were meant to be wed before he decided against it, but I think Arthur could do with more friends than a wife. [Not that he's looking, with Gwen waiting back home.] You have a title yourself, and I think it would be easier for both of you if you remember you aren't the only ones who've had to change since getting here.

Your highness. [Merlin adds that hastily, remembering belatedly who he's talking to.]

[burping]

Merlin, please. You needn't use that title here. [ Since so many others like her have dropped them, why shouldn't she?] As for Arthur... I would be glad to be his friend if he wishes it. We got on quite well when I knew him. I want nothing more than to do so, actually. I think we could be quite good as each other's council.

[dragonspeak]

[He brightens.] I think so, too, your hi--I mean. Mithian.

[A tilt of the head.] I'll bring the cloth to you once we're back. You're still in the same room as before?

[burping]

Yes. I am still in House Freya. If I am not there, I may be in the stables with Sir Storm. But you may leave the cloth in my room. And thank you, I will repay you.

[She smiles.]

I told you this once but you will not remember it. You are very good to Arthur, you are important to him, I have and can see it clearly, more for him than you get credit for.

[dragonspeak]

[What can he do but blink in surprise, then redden and duck his head bashfully?]

Oh. Erm. Thank you. He's--he's changed, you know? Maybe things were like that before, but I think he does see me now.

[It's just surprising that someone like Mithian would comment on it at all.]

[burping]

Good. You deserve to be seen.

[dragonspeak]

[So many compliments, what does he even do with them? Merlin flounders a bit, deciding to beat a hasty retreat.]

Right. I should--I should go before Arthur starts shouting for me.

[burping]

Be safe.

We will. We'll be back before you know it.

[On Mithian's desk, there's a small bundle of cookies--round medallions with red glaze in the shape of fire on one side. Folded neatly next to the cookies is a cream coloured shawl. The note reads: ]

[ A bouquet of flowers can be found waiting for Mithian, with a hand-written note tucked under the ribbon which binds the stems together. ]

I am told today is one for celebrating the bonds we share with others. Please accept my regards.
